Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Rice Cooker

When I am making rice, not only am I intending to use the final product for whatever meal I am currently making, but I like to save some of it left over to eat with other dishes later. Living on a college student budget doesn’t really give me much of a choice otherwise, so I love the Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom 3 because it allows me to do just that. This rice cooker is able to produce up to 6 cups of rice, which is enough to feed me an extra day or two. It does this by using only 3 cups of rice which also saves me money on buying more containers of rice. No matter if I am using short-grain white rice or brown, my rice dishes come out perfectly cooked every time. Never once have I taken a bite of the rice and come across a surprise in the form of an unwanted crunch from the rice being undercooked.

Even though I do eat rice for many of my meals, I do not like to just eat the same things over and over; if I am going to effectively save money by eating predominantly rice, I am going to need to be able to change up what I am eating quite frequently so that I am not getting tired of eating my food. With the Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom 3, I don’t have to worry about that. This little rice cooker can make all kinds of rice that are perfect for use with a number of dishes. Things I have made with this rice cooker include making white or mixed rice dishes all at once, porridge, brown rice dishes, and sushi. There are settings on the Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom 3 that I can simply press a button to access the type of rice I want. There is even a quick cooking button that gets the rice cooked quickly when I am in a hurry.

As a busy student, I do not often have time to hang around and carefully use measuring cups to figure out the perfect amount of rice that needs to be put into the pot in order to make the most out of my meals. best rice cookerBecause of this, having the ability to quickly get my ingredients in order and fill the rice cooker with them is important. The Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom 3 allows me to do this with ease. Sure, I can use the included 6-ounce measuring cup that comes with this cooker, but the rice cooker also comes with measuring lines that make it easy to just fill it with rice until it hits the line. This rice cooker also comes with an inner cooking pan that gives my rice the perfect level of even heating, helping to ensure that every single grain is cooked to perfection without me fretting over whether or not the rice in the center has been thoroughly cooked as I do with some other rice makers. This is a top rice cooker in terms of convenience in my opinion.

The Zojirushi Micom 3 comes with a number of built-in features that also make cooking rice in this cooker a dream. It comes with a detachable inner lid that makes cleaning this cooker a breeze, allowing me to clean it without struggling to do so at a strange angle. There is an easy-to-read LCD control panel that helps me move between different cooking modes with ease. The Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom 3 also features things like an automatic and extended warming setting that keeps my food warm until I’m ready to eat. If I want leftovers, all I have to do is access the reheating cycle, and if I want to plan to cook my food at a later time, I can take advantage of the delay timer that comes with two unique settings. This really makes this cooker a catch-all for me, and it has made making rice dinners easier, quicker and simpler than ever before.

Finally, this cooker is beautiful to look at and takes up hardly any space on my countertop, which is important in my cramped apartment. It also features a built-in retractable cord so that it doesn’t create a mess all over my counter, either. Not only does the Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom 3 take up so little space on my countertop, but it also comes with a number of accessories that make cooking my rice even simpler. These accessories include the aforementioned 6-ounce measuring cup, a non-stick spatula, and even a spatula holder.

Positives
  • Fill lines inside of cooker
  • Inner heating plate promises even cooking every time
  • Makes 6 cups of cooked rice out of 3 cups
  • Many convenient features
  • Specific settings for sushi, porridge, brown rice and mixed rice

Negatives
  • Inner plate peeling. There have been reports online that state reviewers are experiencing peeling of the inner plate, but I have not experienced this issue. I believe this is because they are washing it with something coarse instead of a soft sponge, so this is more of a heads-up than it is a drawback.

Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN Rice Cooker

I mentioned earlier how much I love being able to cook a lot of rice at once so that I can eat my leftovers later when I’m in a rush or too tired to make food after a long day. The Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN provides me with so much rice that I almost don’t know what to do with it. I can make an impressive amount of rice up to 10 entire cups! This lasts me several days if I am eating by myself–close to a week, actually. If I am not eating alone and instead am entertaining some friends or classmates, I can take full advantage of its immense capacity and make rice for up to 10 people. This is great for helping out some buddies or simply wanting to do something nice to feed my friends. I imagine that because of its capacity, the Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN is could be the top choice of rice cooker for larger families.

One of the most unique features of the Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN is the fact that it has near field communication technologies, also known as NFC. NFC comes standard on most Android smartphones of later models, so this is a really handy and convenient thing to have. With the near field communication feature, I can directly control my rice cooker from well across the room. I am able to access the mobile app that comes for Android devices and set my cooker to whatever setting that I need it to run at with ease. This helps me get the dinner process started when I am feeling unmotivated after a long and tiring day. The Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN’s app also comes with a list of different recipes for me to play around with so that I can keep my meals fresh and enticing by not being stuck eating the same repetitive cycle of certain rice dishes over and over every week.

Another wonderful feature of the Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN is the fact that it is exceedingly simple to clean. I do not have a lot of time during my day to keep my apartment and all of my appliances cleaned, so when I am able to take the time to do it, I need it to be a relatively quick process so that I can get back to my schoolwork or my job. The Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN features an easily washable cover so that I can give it a good wipe down with mild soap and water and not have to worry about ruining my rice cooker. The inside of this cooker can be cleaned with ease, too. With this cooker, I am able to turn on one of the settings that allows for automatic steam cleaning. By taking advantage of the steam cleaner, I simply allow the cooker to clean itself thoroughly inside, removing any stuck grains of rice. Then, I can wipe it out when the steam cleaning is over.

Something that is hard to find in most rice cookers is the ability to cook other types of food outside of rice. Not having a lot of money for an array of cookware means making other sorts of meals can be tiresome and leaves me with a lot of dishes after. Instead of worrying about that, the Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN allows me to cook all sorts of other foods inside of it, including eggs, vegetables, poultry and other meats. This really helps me to eat more well-balanced meals in half of the time as it would take for me to prepare other items, simply because I am able to set it to cook and then walk away.

Brown rice often takes much longer than standard white rice, but with the Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN, it seriously cuts back on cooking and soaking time. This allows me to enjoy multiple types of rice, including mixed rice that often requires me to wait a ridiculous amount of time before I am able to enjoy them. Thanks to this rice cooker, I am able to get even more diversity with the food that I eat which encourages me to spend less money on other food. This is definitely the best brown rice cooker.

Positives
  • Automatic steam cleaning
  • Brown rice cooks in a fraction of the time of other traditional rice cookers
  • Multi cook mode allows for the cooking of vegetables, eggs, poultry and other meats
  • Near field communication to use with an Android mobile app
  • Voice control

Negatives
  • Price. While the Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN is certainly the most expensive rice cooker that I will review on this list, it is more than worth the money. Not only can it cook more types of rice more efficiently than ever, it features remarkable near field communication technology that really sets it apart from the rest. This rice maker is also so much more than a rice maker; it also allows the cooking of poultry, meats, vegetables and eggs, making the Cuckoo CRP-CHSS1009FN a truly all in one cooking machine that you can’t afford to miss out on!

Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 Rice Cooker

Perhaps the most unique aspect of the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 that sets this rice cooker aside from any other is the inclusion of what they call Neuro Fuzzy Logic Technology. This technology is totally computerized and it allows the rice cooker a mind of its own and make the best rice. This cooker can essentially think for itself, fine-tuning adjustments here and there to fix the temperature and heating time as it cooks. This helps ensure that no overcooking or undercooking occurs whatsoever, which can be a problem with some single temperature rice cookers that I have used. In fact, I haven’t had a single grain of rice come out of the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 and Warmer that was not cooked to perfection. It is worth mentioning that this rice cooker features a 5.5-cup dry rice capacity as well, so I can pretty much make as much rice as I want to save for later.

Since I mentioned the 5.5-cup capacity a moment ago, I want to touch on how much rice this unit can make and how many variations of rice it can cook, too. The Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 makes up to 10 cups of cooked rice, making this perfect for cooking enough rice to last me through the week. I can also cook dinner for my friends this way to help them save money too, so I know that this cooker will help feed large families frequently as well. It features the ability to cook multiple kinds of rice thanks to the large amount of menu selections available, and I will elaborate on those in a bit. The Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 can make almost any kind of rice, such as white rice of the sushi variety, as well as soft and hard; it can make mixed rice, sweet rice, semi-brown and brown, porridge, rinse free and it even comes with the ability to make quick cooking rice as well!

One pain that I often struggle with when it comes to rice cookers is the fact that sometimes, my rice seems unevenly cooked. rice cookerI’ll have nice, warm, fluffy, sticky rice all around the rim, but, when I scoop into the center of the rice, I find that it is colder than the outside and undercooked, leaving me with moderately crunchy, unappealing rice dishes. The Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 eliminates that issue with its spherical, non-stick inner pan. This pan helps give more thorough, uniform heating of every single grain in the rice cooker. It even has an LCD clock and timer that helps me to keep an eye on how long my food has been cooking to further ensure that no other over or undercooking can occur.

The makers of the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 really thought of everything in terms of creating a rice cooker that comes with everything I need to make the perfect rice every time, and that extends well beyond the unique Neuro Fuzzy Rice technology. This rice cooker comes complete with accessories such as a non-stick rice spoon and scooper, 2 measuring cups, a rice spoon holder and even a little recipe book so that I can make the most out of my dishes. Features of the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 include an automatic keep-warm feature that will never let my rice grow cold; an extended keep warm and reheat cycle that allows all of my rice to maintain the perfect temperature so I can go back for second helpings; and a delay timer that lets me set my rice cooker to turn on at a designated time.

Finally, the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 takes up hardly any space on my countertop which is important considering I live in a rather small apartment with a tiny kitchen. This cooker measures only 14 inches by 8 inches by 9 inches and features a retractable cord that never gets in my way or makes my counters look sloppy.

Positives
  • Comes with a rice spoon and scooper, two measuring cups, rice spoon holder and recipes
  • Compact size
  • Cooks sushi rice, brown, semi-brown, mixed, porridge, rinse-free and quick cooking rice
  • Features automatic and extended keep-warm option, a reheat cycle and a delay timer
  • Neuro Fuzzy Rice technology that optimizes heating and cooking times using a computer
  • Retractable cord
  • Spherical, non-stick pan for even heating every time
  • Yields 10 cups of rice

Negatives
  • Short warranty. The Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 comes with a 12-month warranty which is a bit shorter than some other warranties available for rice cookers. I hardly consider this a downside, though, as even with repetitive usage almost daily for a long time, my rice cooker is still in perfect condition and makes excellent rice. I know this will last for years to come.best rice

Tiger JAY-A55U-CU Rice Cooker

One of the unique features of the Tiger JAY-A55U-CU is the fact that it features a microcomputer inside of it by way of an included microchip. This allows the cooker to be warmed and controlled with the push of a button. With all of its unique functions and diverse menu settings, the chip adjusts both the cooking time and the power of the rice cooker according to how I want it to cook. After I put in the inner pan and ingredients, I choose the setting and then the sensor that is located at the bottom of the inside of this cooker will start up the cooking process. Since I don’t have to spend a lot of time preparing or setting up my choices for cooking, the chip does all of the work for me. It keeps a virtual eye on the cooking temperature so that when I go to eat, everything is perfectly cooked.

The Tiger JAY-A55U-CU not only functions like a beautiful dream, it looks like one, too. This cooker comes with a stainless steel design that is super sleek and modern. It has a nice stainless steel and beige-colored finish, and this adds a nice touch to my kitchen and helps give it a more contemporary upgrade which is always great. The Tiger JAY-A55U-CU allows me to put 3 cups of dry rice into it, which then turns into a nice amount of 6 cups of cooked rice. This cooker only measures a compact 8.7 inches by 12.7 inches by 7 inches, which also makes it highly compact and does not take up too much room on my small amount of counter space.

The Tiger JAY-A55U-CU also comes with a cooking timer that feature two memory settings. These are preset amounts of time that give me the peace of mind that the time spent cooking rice has been optimized to ensure that my rice comes out perfectly. This also helps me to choose different settings that are dependent upon the kind of rice I want, and how I want it to turn out. The Tiger JAY-A55U-CU also features a warming elapsed-time display that lets me know how long the rice has been keeping warm so that I can be sure it isn’t drying out.

Another great perk of having the Tiger JAY-A55U-CU in my apartment is the fact that it is super simple to clean. I don’t usually have a lot of time to spend cleaning my appliances, so having something that takes me only a few minutes to clean spotlessly is huge. This rice cooker features a detachable inner lid. This allows me to take off the rice cooker’s lid in order to clean it thoroughly instead of having to clean it at an uncomfortable angle, which makes me feel like I am missing a spot. The inner pan that cooks the rice is also washable, letting me know I am not allowing any bacteria to foster.

I want to take a moment to talk about the Tiger JAY-A55U-CU’s inner pan because it is truly well built and high quality. The inner pan features a high quality, 2.2-millimeter thick pan that comes with a unique, far-infrared inner coating. It is this coating that is responsible for heating and cooking the rice in its entirety, down to the very last grain. The heater on the Tiger JAY-A55U-CU is also spherical for a well-rounded distribution of heat. The heat circulates through the inner pan and I have definitely noticed better tasting rice because of this unique heating system. This inner pan is also non-stick for easy serving and cleaning, and it is scratch resistant as well. Because of this, I feel secure in the fact that my unit will remain intact for as long as possible and will give me the most usage out of it for years to come.

Positives
  • 2 preset timers with unique memories
  • 3 cup dry rice capacity lends 6 cups of cooked rice
  • Compact size
  • Far-infrared coating for thorough heating through spherical heater
  • Microcomputer technology optimizes both the temperature and the cooking time for perfect rice every time
  • Non-stick and scratch-resistant inner pan
  • Removable lid and washable inner pan makes cleaning simple
  • Stainless steel composition with beige finish is ultra modern

Negatives
  • Cook times. The Tiger JAY-A55U-CU usually takes an average of 25-30 minutes to cook, but this is hardly a downside. While my rice is cooking to perfection, I can go about the rest of my food preparation like cutting up meats and vegetables and getting those cooked and out of the way so when my rice is done, my entire meal is ready.

Aroma Housewares 20

As I mentioned in another review, I like making as much rice as I can at any given point. This allows me to make plenty of pre-packed lunches and dinners to take with me to work and to class, helping me to save money by not eating out as much. The Aroma Housewares 20 Cup Cooked allows me to cook a remarkable and impressive 20 cups of cooked rice. That will feed me for well over a week, closer to two weeks if I ration out my portions properly. I could even share meals with friends and coworkers and not run out any time soon. Because of this incredible yield of rice, I know that if you have a large family or need to consistently cook for large events, the Aroma Housewares 20 Cup Cooked is going to become your new favorite companion in the kitchen.

An awesome feature of the Aroma Housewares is the fact that I can do so much more than just cook rice in this unit. I can actually prepare an entire meal if I wanted to, and because of the way this rice cooker cooks other food, my meals will be healthier and more nutritious, which is really tricky for me to do on the sort of low budget that I am on. The Aroma Housewares 20 Cup Cooked features two unique layers of cooking capabilities. The first layer, of course, is going to be the rice cooker. This rice cooker does its job on the bottom of this unit, and on the top of the unit, there is the option to add a steamer that is included! The steamer can steam meats of any kind along with vegetables, and it can do it all at once so that I can have a delicious meal that cooks in one convenient pot and finishes around the same time so everything is nice and warm when I’m ready to eat.

While I have the option of cooking meats and vegetables in the steamer above the rice cooking portion of the Aroma Housewares, let’s not forget the main purpose of this machine which is to cook my rice to ultimate perfection. This rice cooker allows me to cook a number of different kinds of rice so that I never grow bored with what I am eating, encouraging me to eat at home more often than I eat out, and no matter what sort of rice I choose to eat, it all comes out thoroughly cooked and tastes wonderful. The Aroma Housewares 20 Cup Cooked lets me cook white rice, steamed rice, brown rice, flash rice and slow cook rice thanks to its many functions and settings that are easy to choose with the screen that is included, making this cooker extra convenient.

On top of the controls that allow me to cook a number of different types of rice, the Aroma Housewares 20 Cup Cooked is so simple to use to navigate its other features with its digital controls. This rice cooker features an automatic keep-warm function that helps keep my rice at the perfect temperature until I am ready to eat it. I can also enjoy the 15 hour delay timer feature that lets me set the timer a long time in advance, so if I have a busy day, I can set it for what time I expect to be back at my apartment and my rice will be perfectly cooked and warm, waiting for me when I arrive.

Finally, the Aroma Housewares 20 Cup Cooked comes with a number of accessories that makes cooking rice even simpler. With everything that I could need to cook my rice, I can spend less time preparing and serving my food and more time enjoying it. Accessories included with the Aroma Housewares are things such as the steam tray, the serving spatula and the rice measuring cup. All of these items work in harmony to provide me with a quick and efficient experience anytime I want rice.

Positives
  • Accessories include a steamer, a rice measuring cup and serving spatula
  • Bottom layer of rice cooker is a dedicated rice cooker, while the top is a dedicated steamer for vegetables and meat
  • Cooks white rice, steamed rice, brown rice, flash rice and slow cook rice
  • Keep warm function, 15-hour delay timer and digital controls
  • Yields an impressive 20 cups of cooked rice from 10 cups of uncooked rice

Negatives
  • Keep warm timer. There have been reviews online that state that the rice in the cooker cannot stay intact in the Aroma Housewares 20 Cup Cooked (10 cup uncooked) Digital Rice Cooker for longer than a few days. I would hardly consider this a drawback only because I can easily put the rice into a plastic container and store it for longer without it spoiling.

Cuisinart CRC-400 Rice Cooker

After all of this time, I have set my expectations rather high when it comes to the abilities of my rice cookers. I have learned that I want to get the most out of them as I can, which means I am usually looking for a rice cooker that can offer me more than just well for me to cook with, helping to minimize that dreaded after-dinner clean up time.

Speaking of the steaming abilities of the Cuisinart CRC-400, I want to mention a few other types of food that I have made in this awesome unit. Instead of being forced to stick to dishes that only include rice with my rice makers, the Cuisinart CRC-400 has allowed me to cook polenta, couscous, boiled eggs, oatmeal and shrimp with just as much ease and efficiency as my rice is cooked. I love this feature because it gives me more versatility than ever before, allowing me to bring all sorts of food to work and class so that I don’t waste money eating out. A thoughtful touch from Cuisinart is the fact that this company has included a small booklet that is chock full of different recipes so that I can make the most out of my rice cooking unit. A few of the recipes that I have tried from this book include cranberry wild rice, teriyaki steamed chicken and creamy parmesan risotto that I added some pieces of asparagus to. Everything came out delicious and really saved me a lot of time and effort both cooking and cleaning up.

The Cuisinart CRC-400 absolutely looks as great as it functions, and it gives my kitchen a nice touch because of it. This rice cooker is made from a striking stainless steel that features a brushed exterior to give it a handsome, modern look. The square shape with rounded corners only helps with the contemporary style of the cooker, which is finished off with chrome-plated handles. The chrome knob looks great against the stainless steel, and the glass lid with a stainless steel rim really completes the look and rounds it out. The Cuisinart CRC-400 also features a steam vent hole on its outside so that all of the food inside is cooked with just the right amount of pressure. Inside of this cooker is more stainless steel in the form of the steaming basket, and there is also a non-stick cooking bowl that can yield up to four to seven cups of rice.

Many rice cookers that I have tried out are not dishwasher safe. In fact, most of them require hand washing that is awkward at best to have to maneuver around the small spaces of the inner pans and the lids in order to ensure that I have hit every nook and cranny. The Cuisinart CRC-400, on the other hand, is entirely dishwasher safe. All of the parts of this unit are removable in order for a thorough cleaning to take place. This unit is also incredibly compact for what it can do, as it measures only 7.75 by 7.75 by 9 inches in size. Its size allows me to place it on any corner of my countertop without it consuming more space than it needs to, which is wonderful because my apartment kitchen is pretty small. The Cuisinart CRC-400 Rice Cooker also comes with a couple of accessories that make using it simple and convenient, including a textured, plastic paddle used for serving and storing and a plastic measuring cup for perfect portions.

Finally, the Cuisinart CRC-400 features two LED lights that illuminate to show me different parts of the cooking and warming process. The machine shows one light as it is cooking and another when it automatically switches to the warming cycle. This automatic switch is convenient and keeps my food warm from the start.

Positives
  • All parts are removable and dishwasher safe
  • Automatically switches to warm food after cooking
  • Can cook things such as polenta, couscous, boiled eggs, oatmeal, risotto and shrimp
  • Comes with serving paddle and measuring cup
  • Compact size
  • Durable stainless steel design
  • LED display lights
  • Steams meats, vegetables and rice

Negatives
  • Rice dries out with long periods of sitting. Although the Cuisinart CRC-400 Rice Cooker does make exceptional rice, if I keep it in the warmer for more than, say, 4 or 5 hours, the rice will dry out just a bit. I only ran into this problem once and I realized that there is no need for me to keep the warmer on for that long.  After keeping it warm long enough to enjoy a few servings, I transfer it into a plastic container and heat it later with a little bit of water.

Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH

When I stick the inner pan into the cooker and turn on the unit, the magnetic field is turned on and creates heat immediately inside of the pan. It is with this technology that the inner cooking pan itself is the source of the heat and can take advantage of both small heating adjustments and high heat settings to take control over the cooking process completely. I have noticed a distinct taste difference in this rice cooker than some of the others, so I think I can attribute that to this heater.

The Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH Induction Heating System also comes with a nice feature that allows me to keep my rice warm automatically after the cooking process has been completed. On top of the automatic keep warm technology, this cooker has an extended keep warm setting that keeps rice at the right serving temperature for much longer than average. In fact, I can let my rice stay in the Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH for up to an impressive eight hours without fear that it might dry out on me. This way I can make some rice for my lunch, turn on the extended warm feature and then return at the end the day to perfect rice! It keeps the rice from drying out by setting the temperature for cooking just slightly lower when I engage the extended keep warm setting so that it does not yellow, either.

The Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH also features the ability to cook multiple kinds of rice as well, which is important if I want to make the most out of my rice cooker and not simply use it for white rice meals. By allowing me to make things like soft, regular, and harder white rice, sushi rice, mixed rice, sweet rice, porridge, brown and GABA brown rice and quick cooking rice, I can change up what I am eating to help encourage myself to eat at home more often than not. This also saves me money on going to sushi bars because I can use cheaper store bought meats and vegetables that I already have waiting for me in my refrigerator. It features a unique jasmine cooking function which is important, as jasmine rice cooks a little differently. This setting adjusts the flow of the white rice setting to optimize the cooking function. This means even if I want to make unique rice dishes, I don’t have to worry about losing out on delicious meals.

The Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH Induction Heating System not only runs smoothly and excellently, it looks just as fantastic as the rice it produces. This rice cooker features clear-coated stainless steel that looks nice and modern on my countertop. Not only does it look great, but it makes it exceptionally easy to clean as well. Wiping down its exterior is a breeze. The Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH only measures 10 inches by 14 inches by 8 inches, which is a nice size for storing away on my countertop without it taking up way too much room. Inside, there is a triple heater that heats my rice from the sides, the lid and the bottom of the inner pan, ensuring that my rice is evenly heated through and through.

Finally, the Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH comes complete with a delay timer that allows me to set the timer and come back to enjoy my food at a later time. By doing so, I can start the rice when I am not hungry and in a rush, and by the time that I need to eat, it is cooked, warm and waiting on me, allowing me to eat when I am hungry instead of having to start the cooker and then wait rather impatiently for it to cook. It comes with two different timers to help optimize the cooking depending on the type of rice I am eating.

Positives
  • 3 way heating from top, sides and bottom
  • Can also cook white rice, sushi rice, mixed rice, sweet rice, porridge, brown and GABA brown rice and quick cooking rice
  • Delay timer
  • Jasmine rice setting
  • Stainless steel design
  • Unique induction heating

Negatives
  • Price. One of the more expensive rice cookers that I have reviewed, the Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH is well worth the price. It can cook more than a simple white rice dish, which is usually the only thing that traditional rice makers can do. This saves me a lot of money, especially when I want unique dishes such as jasmine rice or sushi. It also features unique induction heating that promises thoroughly cooked food every time.

Instant Pot IP-DUO60

The first thing I want to talk about is the fact that this is a great rice cooker, but it is so much more than that. The Instant Pot IP-DUO60 has a great reputation for being able to cook a number of other things perfectly every time. This cooker can function as a top quality pressure cooker, a slow cooker, and rice cooker; it can function as a yogurt maker and can saute and brown ingredients. Finally, it works as a steamer for meats and vegetables to help me eat more nutritious meals, and it serves as a warmer that ensures every single thing that I cook on one of the above functions stays nice and warm until I am ready to eat it. I can’t begin to describe how many things I have cooked inside of the Instant Pot IP-DUO60, and if I tried to, you would be stuck reading this review all day long. Trust me when I say this unit can do just about anything that you might need it to.

I mentioned a moment ago that the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 also comes with a warming feature, so I want to touch on what that is and why it’s so awesome. The automatic warming feature kicks on immediately after my rice, soup, stew or other meal has finished cooking. This ensures that whatever I make stays warm long enough for me to serve my food to anyone who is eating with me. It also allows me to get multiple servings cooked up without having to stick my food in the microwave, which, let’s be honest, never tastes as good as it did coming straight out of the pot. Because the warming feature kicks down the temperature just a bit, it is worth noting that the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 also comes with three different temperatures in this function, one for the saute feature and another for when I want to slow cook my food.

The Instant Pot IP-DUO60 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker is also made out of ultra high quality materials that let me know I will get to enjoy this pot for years to come. The bottom of the cooking pot itself is made out of 3-ply stainless steel, and this stainless steel pot is also Food Grade 304, or 18/8 stainless steel, allowing it to heat to whatever temperatures that I need it to without fear that it is going to scald my food or ruin my pan itself. The steam rack and the handle of the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 are also made of stainless steel, making the entire pot durable. Finally, this pot features a brushed stainless steel exterior that is gorgeous on my countertop and definitely adds a modern appeal to my kitchen.

The unique, efficient and versatile function of the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 is due in part to its handy microprocessor. This microprocessor controls four unique functions of the Instant Pot IP-DUO60. These functions include: meat and stew, poultry, soup, steamed ingredients, rice, porridge, slow cooking, multigrain, yogurt, fermented rice, pasteurization, and of course, the keep warm function. Because of this, there are seemingly endless possibilities in regards to the things that it can create, saving me so much money and adding true diversity to my meals.

When it comes to pressure cooking, whether traditionally or in the Instant Pot IP-DUO60, the right amount of pressure can make or break the cooking process as well as the outcome of your food. This pot uses dual pressure settings that allow for swift and flexible cooking. By cooking with the high pressure system, I am able to reduce my cooking time up to 70 percent, making me a more efficient cook who has more free time to see to the other aspects of cooking. I can also set the pressure down low to eliminate my fear of accidentally overcooking food that I consider delicate and prone to overcooking.

Positives
  • 7-in-1 pot allows for the function of a rice cooker, slow cooker and pressure cooker, yogurt, steamer, warmer, and a saute/browning function
  • Automatic keep-warm function
  • Can make meat and stew, poultry, soup, steamed ingredients, rice, porridge, slow cooking, multigrain, yogurt, fermented rice, pasteurization and uses a keep warm function
  • High pressures setting reduces cooking time up to 70 percent, while low pressure prevents any overcooking
  • Micro-processor controlled with 14 unique settings
  • Stainless steel composition

Negatives
  • Price. The Instant Pot IP-DUO60 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker is one of the more expensive options on this list when it is compared to others. While it is not the priciest, it may be off putting to some to spend that much on what they assume is only a pressure cooker. For everything that it can do, the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 is more than worth the price.

Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity

This rice cooker provides me with anywhere between 1-14 cooked cups, depending on what I need. I like this large range of sizes because this means I can cook enough for a meal or two if I want without letting any go to waste afterward. This also means that I am able to also enjoy the benefits of a large pot of rice that can last me for a week or more. This helps me to save money by being able to pack the extra rice as a meal for work or school, allowing me to spend less money on food in general. For this reason, the Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity 7 Cups Uncooked is one of the best choices of rice cookers for those who feed large families or groups of people.

With the Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity, I never again have to worry about overcooking or undercooking my rice. Instead, I press the button of the function that I want and allow the machine to take over. I can make all different sorts of rice this way, from brown to white, which is awesome considering the fact that brown rice often requires a greater soaking time than white race and therefore not only takes longer, but is harder to perfect as well. I can also enjoy the benefits of making oatmeals of my choosing alongside other whole grain items such as barley. Bean soup is easy in the Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity as well, so this really makes things a breeze for me. When I really don’t have time to make my dinner due to a busy work and school schedule, I can simply throw in a pasta variety and turn it onto the heat and simmer function and cook that way.

I want to briefly speak a little more on the sort of foods that the Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity 7 Cups Uncooked allows me to make. This handy unit, as stated, can handle whole grains like oatmeal, farro, brown rice, quinoa and more. It can also cook all kinds of rice such as short and long grain white rice and quick rice for getting meals cooked quickly. The Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity can also steam cook meats, fish, poultry, vegetables and more for a healthier dinner. On top of that, hot cereals like cream of wheat and grits are a possibility, and I can use the simmer and heat function for beans, soup, flavored rice and pasta mixes and one-pot meals. The variety of foodstuffs that I can cook in this pot seems endless, which saves me plenty of time and money I would otherwise waste eating out. Why, when I can buy it at the supermarket and cook it effortlessly in this pot for much cheaper?

The Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity also comes with the ability to set a delay smart timer that lets me set a timer to have the food begin to cook on cue up to 15 hours in advance. This lets me set it before I go to work or to class and come home to food that is ready when I get home.

Finally, unlike many other rice cookers that I have tested out, the Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity features easy to clean parts such as non-stick bowls that make it simple to throw into the dishwasher. This way, I don’t have to spend time on tedious hand washing that is rather difficult when the parts won’t come out of the cooker.

Negatives
  • Overflowing. Some reviews online from those who have tried the Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity have stated that it overflows water when it cooks, but I have not personally run into this issue. I think that the problem may lie in the fact that those using the Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity are overfilling the recommended capacity, so don’t let these types of reviews stop you from checking out this great cooker.best cheap rice cooker

Zojirushi NS-TSC10

One of the most unique things about the Zojirushi NS-TSC10 that helps me to see this as one of the better rice cookers available today is the Neuro Fuzzy Logic technology that comes included in this rice cooker. fuzzy logic rice cookerThe technology is based on a computer chip inside of the rice cooker that lets it take the hard work off of my hands. Able to make the necessary, finest of adjustments to both the heating time and the temperature at which the rice is cooking, this rice cooking unit promises to never undercook or overcook my food, and it has definitely performed in the way as advertised. I have never once experienced soupy or crunchy rice when using the Zojirushi NS-TSC10  Rice Cooker and Warmer like I have with some other rice cookers. It can cook the entirety of its 10 cup yield with no negative outcomes, allowing me to make plenty of rice all at once without worrying about having too much in there where it might not cook evenly.

A major issue that I keep running across with the rice cookers that I am testing out comes in the form of my rice being undercooked in some places, perfect on the outer edge and overcooked in the center. This leaves me with a lot of undesirable textures and tastes that make me regret making rice at all. The Zojirushi NS-TSC10 and Warmer doesn’t seem to have this issue. This rice cooker affords me completely cooked rice every time due to its thick black inner cooking pan. This pan heats all around for more even cooking that I have never had to doubt since using this unit. The Zojirushi NS-TSC10 5-1/2-Cup even features a convenient LCD timer and clock built right into it that allows me to monitor the amount of time that the rice is cooking, just in case I have my doubts and want to double check that no overcooking will occur. So far, so good. Not a single grain of rice has come out anything but perfect.

As I mentioned earlier, the 5.5-cup dry rice capacity that the Zojirushi NS-TSC10 rice, sweet rice, brown rice, steamed rice and quick-cook rice for when I am in a hurry.

The Zojirushi NS-TSC10 5-1/2-Cup (Uncooked) not only works excellently, but it looks fantastic in my kitchen and gives it a nice modern appeal, something that my small apartment kitchen desperately needs. It takes up barely any space atop my counters, which saves me plenty of room for my other small kitchen and household appliances that I want to store on the same countertop. The Zojirushi NS-TSC10  measures only 10.875 inches by 14 inches by 8.5 inches. It even features a retractable cord which helps to keep the clutter on my countertops to a minimum.

Finally, I want to briefly mention the fact that the Zojirushi NS-TSC10 is very easy to clean. The beautiful stainless steel exterior that makes the unit look so contemporary is due in part to its unique coating. This special coating makes it very simple for me to wipe it down after every use to keep it looking nice.

Positives
  • 5.5 cup dry rice yields 10 cups of cooked rice
  • Can cook sushi rice, white rice, brown rice, porridges, mixed rice, quick-cook rice and steamed rice

Negatives
  • Price. While you may find you are tempted to spend less money on a rice cooker, try and appreciate the value of it, first, such as the Zojirushi NS-TSC10. While this is a mid-range-priced cooker, it can handle any sort of rice and guarantees even cooking with its Neuro Micro Fuzzy Technology.

Final Verdict

I have chosen the Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom as the superior choice when it comes to the best rated rice cookers on the market today. The reason for this lies in the fact that it is super compact and takes up barely any room on my countertops, despite its powerful nature. This rice cooker can yield up to 6 cups of cooked rice which is plenty to allow me to eat it as leftovers for a while. It also comes with unique preset functions for use with sushi, porridge, brown rice and mixed rice. The way the inner cooking pan is set up provides even heating, as well. I recommend the Zojirushi NS-LAC05XT Micom for anyone who needs a reliable rice cooker at a fair price.
